The CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg has announced on Friday that the training researcher of Openai Shengjia Zhao will guide the research efforts to the new artificial intelligence unit of the company, Meta Superintendance Labs (MSL). Zhao has contributed to many of the great discoveries of Openi, including chatgpt, GPT-4 and the first model of reasoning to the company, O1.

“I am excited to share that Shengjia Zhao will be the main scientist of Meta Superintendigance Labs,” said Zuckerberg in a Publish on thread Friday. “Shengjia has co-founded the new laboratory and has been our main scientist from the first day. Now that our recruitment is good and our team is coming to Togger, we decided to formalize its leadership.”

Zhao will fix a research agenda for MSL under the guidance of Alexandr Wang, the CEO of stairs to the he was Recently taken to guide the new unit.

We are excited to announce it @Shengjia_zhao He will be the scientist head of Meta SuperinTetinTingigence Labs!

Shengjia is a brilliant scientist who recently ponds a new paradigm of downsizing in his research. Will lead our scientific direction for our team.

Wang, who does not have a research background, It has been seen as a somewhat unconventional choice To guide an artificial intelligence laboratory. The addition of Zhao, which is a reliable research leader known for the development of ai frontier models, completes the leadership team. To further fill in the unit, Meta has taken on several high -level researchers of Openai, Google Deepmind, Safe Surinteligence, Apple and Anthropic, as well as pulling researchers from the fundamental Research (Fair) of Meta e Fair) and generative units.

Zuckerberg observes in his post that Zhao has opened the way to several discoveries, included a “new reduction paradigm”. The CEO Meta is probably referring to Zhao’s work on the model of reasoning of Openai, O1, in which it is listed as a basic collaborator together with the co-founder of Openi, Ilya Sutskever. Meta currently did not offer a competitor to O1, so the AI reasoning models are a key area of focus for MSL.

The information reported in June Zhao would join Meta Superinteningigence LabsNext to three other Openi researchers, Jiahui Yu, Shuchao Bi and Hongyu Ren. Destination also recruited Bansal TrapitAnother researcher by Openai who worked on models of reasoning to the with Zhao, as well as three employees of the Zurich office in Openi, which World on Multotality.

Zuckerberg has done everything to set MSL for success. The CEO Meta was recruiting madness for the staff, he has superintelligence laboratory, who started sending personal and -mail to researchers and inviting perspectives in his estate on Lake Tahoe. According to reports, Meta offered some researchers compensation packages eight and nine digits, Some of which are “exploration offers” which expires in a few days.

Meta has also increased its investments in the cloud computing infrastructure, which should help MSL conduct the enormous training runs necessary to create competitive frontier models.

By 2026, Zhao and MSL researchers should have access to The 1 Gigawatt Cloud Computing cluster of Meta, Prometheus, Located in Ohio. Once online, Meta will be one of the first technological companies with a group of training AI of Prometheus – 1 Gigawatt is enough energy to feed over 750,000 houses. This should help destination to conduct the huge training races needed to create ai frontier models.

With the addition of Zhao, Meta now has two main scientists of AI, including Yann Leunc, leader of the Fair Lab of Meta. Unlike MSL, Fair is designed to concentrate on long -term research technologies that can be used between between 10 and 10 years. How the three units of ai di Meta will work together remains from Sen.

However, Meta now seems to have a formidable leadership team to to compete with Openi and Google.
