Jared Kaplan, co-founder and anthropic scientific director, said that his company has cut the direct access of Windsurf to the Claude Ai Anthropes models largely due to voices and relationships that Openai, his great competitor, is acquiring the AI coding assistant.

“We are really just trying to allow our customers who will work sustainable with us in the future,” said Kaplan during an interview on stage on Thursday with Techcrunch a TC sessions: at 2025.

“I think it would be strange for us to sell Claude to Openai,” said Kaplan.

The comment only a few weeks later Bloomberg reports it Openi was acquiring Windsurf for $ 3 billion. At the beginning of this week, Windsurf said Anthropic cut its direct access to the Sonetto Claude 3.5 and the Claude 3.7 SonetTwo of the most popular models for coding, forcing the start to find third -party calculations suppliers with relatively short notice. Windsurf said he was disappointed by the anthropic decision and that could cause short -term for users who try to access Claude through Windsurf.

Windsurf refused the way in which Kaplan’s note and an Openi spokesman has now made Lisondo to Techcrunch request. The companies have not confirmed the acquisition items.

Part of the reason why Claude, the access of anthropic Cut Windsurf to Claude today, is because the company is quite tied by the calculation today. Anthropic would like to book his calculation for what Kaplan has characterized from “lasting partnerships”.

However, Kaplan said that the company hopes to significantly increase the available models that can offer users and developers in the coming months. He added that Anthropic has just started unlocking the ability on a new calculation cluster by his partner, Amazon, who says he is “really big and continues to climb”.

While the anthropic moves away from Windsurf, Kaplan said it is collaborating with other customers who build coding tools AI, such as the cursor – a Kaplan company has said that the anthropic Exponsons express themselves for a long time. Kaplan rejected the idea that Anthropic was competing with companies like cursor, who is developing his AI models.

In the meantime, Kaplan states that Anthropic focuses more and more on the development of its agent coding products, such as Claude Code, rather than on the experiences of AA Chatbot. While companies like Openai, Google and Meta are coming for the most popular ai chatbot platform, Kaplan has said that the chatbot paradigm is limited to its static nature and that artificial intelligence agents would be much more useful for users.
