Austin (Kxan) – Texas alt-country artist Charley Crockett has never been one to go with the flow. The self-proclaimed drifter reminded his fans again this week on social media.
Crockett, a San Benito Texas native famous for his signature American music, took to social media this week to remind people of his roots and speak out about the name change from “The GULF Of Mexico” to “Golf of America.”
“I was born on the Gulf of Mexico. POST STATED. “Every true Texan knows that our Mexican American brothers and sisters support our economy in every industry.
Crockett was, of course, referring to President Trump’s order to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” This order sparked countless conversations and debates about whether TRUM should or even could rename the body of water.
Crockett’s post concluded: “If these guys in Washington DC want to rename the regions of this country, they can start with New England.”
This is far from the first time that the singer has spoken out about the controversial topics online.
In August Crockett wrote a Long caption In a social media post about the Game Fellow Texan artist Beyoncé was recognized earlier this year for diving into the country music genre with her album Cowboy Carter, which earned her prestigious awards.
“Hey country people. Later in the caption he wrote, “I don’t need to tear down a black woman to advance my music.”
Crockett transferred to A’s last spring Conversation Featuring rising country artist Noeline Hofmann on Rolling Stone’s first multi-city tour“Musicians about musicians” series.. During the discussion, he talked about his childhood in Texas, his travels around the world and how a common theme in his lyrics is change and the ability to cope with it.
“You know, you can be neutral on a moving train. Things are constantly changing,” Crockett said.
